DreamConnect S60 Tutorial

Step-by-step guide

Intro: Information Layouts

What sets DreamConnect apart is its simple and clear information display and its multi-function detail view. Contact details are presented in the order of their importance to the viewer. You can see at a glance a contact's phone numbers or addresses, because it is formatted like a business card.

Business Card Display

DreamConnect cleverly uses screen space to show you three times more information on a single screen than the standard Contacts. It also uses icons in an effective layout to show you the type of detail and whether they are personal or business. This allows you to view contacts details quickly and in most cases with no scrolling.

Category Based Layouts

The standard DreamConnect provides three different layouts (personal, business and general) for displaying contact details and uses the category to decide which information comes first.

For example, If a contact is a business associate in the Business category, DreamConnect will display the contact’s work details first. If a contact is a friend in the Personal category, DreamConnect will automatically display your friend’s personal details first. If a contact is in the Unfiled category, DreamConnect will show your contact’s general information first.

These screenshots show you how different the layout of information could be. Using an appropriate layout ensures a contact’s most important and relevant information are always on the top, making it easy to locate the particular information you are after.

Multi-Category Default Layout

In the case that a contact is in more than one categories, DreamConnect will display it in the layout of the category you choose to view it in. For example, Jonathan is both a colleague and a friend. You have him attached to both the Business and Personal categories. When you are viewing all categories, by default, Jonathan's details will be displayed in the general layout. If you decided to just look at the contacts in the Personal category, DreamConnect will display Jonathan details in the personal layout consistent with the category.

Company Layout

DreamConnect also has a company layout for entries that only contain company names and no first names and last names. DreamConnect displays a company card in a company layout that shows the company name first followed by other details.

What's even better is that DreamConnect will treat it like a contact and allow you to search for it without the need to change options to include company.

Customized Layout

DreamConnect uses xml files to define the contacts and their layouts. There are different files for each language DreamConnect supports, with the layout modified to suit the standard way of displaying information (such as addresses) for that language. These files are easily customized by DreamSpring for any larger customers who wish to define their own layouts.  Please contact customer service for information.

Example: Setup Contacts

Suppose you have a colleague from another department joining your team and you need to be in regular contact with him. You already have your colleague's details on your phone, now you just have to set it up so you can contact him easily.

1. Use KeyMatch to search for your colleague Walter Jones

3. Set preferred number

Walter has several numbers and you want to call him on the same number every time. It’s easy if we set his preferred number. So lets go into the editor to do that. Note that you can go into the editor in one of 2 ways.

  1. Choose Options > Edit contact or
  2. Press twice on the selected contact (once on the name in the contact list, and once on the name in the detail display view)

The second is quicker, and requires 1 less key press.

Once in the editor, we go to the desired number in the details view, then choose Options > Set preferred to select the number. Now when you press the send (green) key on your phone with Walter highlighted in the list view, DreamConnect will immediately ring the preferred number.

4. Customise ringtone

You want to know when your teammates call you, and have already assigned a specific ringtone to your team members. You want to include Walter in that. Since he doesn’t have a ringtone already attached to his details, we can choose Add detail > Ringing tone to select the same tune that was assigned to other team members.

5. Insert notes

Next, you want to record the areas and tasks your new colleague is responsible for. The best place to record this information is to include it in the multi-line note field of the contact.

All the added details of your new project team member now appear at a glance. You can see which categories he belong to, which ringtone you assigned him and even see all the notes related to him in one screen, with a finger flick to scroll down.
