We have provided some ideas on how to get the most out of DreamSend. Visit this page regularly for updates.
Using the Contacts Selector
The Contacts Selector looks quite similar to the contact selector used in the standard Messages application, but has some major differences:
- A menu allowing many contacts to be selected or deselected with a single operation
- For contacts with multiple selectable fields, a field selection menu will popup when you select the contact
- Contact names are listed as first-name last-name (unless the configuration file has been changed)
Using Mark All
A unique feature in the Contacts Selector is the way Make All works.
- If you use the search field to narrow the list of contacts shown, and then choose Mark All, then only those contacts currently shown will be marked. If you now delete the search text you will see that not all contacts are selected.
- To select all contacts, make sure the search text is empty, and then choose Mark All.
- Mark All only works when all unmarked contacts currently shown can be selected without using the field selection popup. When selecting phone numbers or email addresses, Mark All may be unavailable.
Using Unmark All
Unmark All works the same way as in any Series 60 application, but some points are worth making.
- Since all marked contacts are always shown, even if they don't match the current search text, Unmark All will always unmark all marked contacts.
- Any previously marked contacts that don't match the search text will disappear after being unmarked.
- Unmark All is available whenever there are any marked contacts.
Using a template
You might find that your most common activity with DreamSend is to beam via Bluetooth some contacts to a friend's phone for them to import into their Contacts database.
If so, you should make a template that is set up to do just that. Follow these steps:
- Choose New Message from the Main view.
- Change the message type (Ms type) to Bluetooth.
- Change the format to Data only.
- Enter a subject describing this message, such as "Contacts via Bluetooth".
- Change activities to None.
- Move the cursor to the Contacts field. (Templates store the location of the cursor, so a new message opened from a template will open with the cursor in the most convenient place.)
- Choose Save as template from the Options menu.
Now to use this template, simply go to the Templates view, select the template, and all you have to do is select your contacts and choose Send, and it's done.
The same principles apply to any other types of messages that you commonly send.
Templates can save you a lot of time!
Hint - using sent messages
You can use messages in the Sent view as templates, too. Just go to the Sent view, choose a previous message that matches the type of new message you want to send, and select it. DreamSend will use the sent message as a template to create a new message.
This is very useful if you want to send your week's activities to the same person each week, because the This week's time range will always find the current week's selection of activities.
